Article Abstract:

Issues concerning contradictory aspects of the functions of intranets are discussed. Particular attention is given to the antagonism between the original purpose of intranet, namely to encourage sharing of knowledge within businesses and the electronic enforcement of existing boundaries.

National differences in the diffusion and design of technological innovation: the role of inter-organizational networks

Article Abstract:

The ways wherein the transformation of organizations through the diffusion of computer-aided production management technologies (CAPM) is influenced by the way such processes are socially shaped across four countries, namely the UK, France, Sweden and the Netherlands, are analyzed. It is found that different patterns of diffusion and design are determined by the different inter-organizational networks in the four European countries, particularly the role of professional associations and technology suppliers.
