Later this year, Microsoft Corp. plans to introduce an interactive-television service, to be known as UltimateTV, for sports, game shows and other programs, as well as Internet access, e-mail and interactive advertising. The firm will still offer is iWebTV service, which now has about one million subscribers. The device that can access UltimateTV will be a satellite-TV receiver that will cost about $400 under the RCA brand. Pricing for the service is expected to be between $10 and $20 more than subscription fees for satellite services.

Microsoft's Personal Services and Devices Group will oversee Microsoft.NET, a new initiative focusing on the Internet and Web services. Rick Belluzzo and Bob Muglia will oversee the project which also includes wireless-communications services, back-end software for telecommunications companies and a "subscription" software service overseen by NetDocs. Microsoft will continue to update Windows and Office.
