Manufacturing strategy, business strategy and firm performance in a mature industry

Article Abstract:

A study of the business strategies, corporate performance and manufacturing strategies of 85 broadwoven fabric companies demonstrated significant relationships between a company's business and manufacturing strategies and between manufacturing strategy and the company's performance. The effectiveness of a company's manufacturing department's quality assurance programs was the major factor in effecting corporate performance results.

Infrastructure and flexible manufacturing technology: theory development

Article Abstract:

The needed operational infrastructure for the successful implementation of flexible manufacturing systems (FMS) was studied. Six companies were studied to determine the effect of the operator, the production planning systems and the incorporation of FMS technology in the workplace, on performance. Eleven suggestions and three conceptual models were developed to achieve the advantages expected from the use of FMS technology.
