Article Abstract:
The time it takes manufacturers to develop new products and market them has become an important success factor. The research was conducted to determine whether or not management of the buyer-supplier interface affects supplier-related delays, and in turn, if said delays slow the overall product development process. Data provided by product development engineers and engineering managers in 79 assembly industry firms show that supplier-related delays are lessened when working with technically competent suppliers. Suppliers with strong technical capabilities are a great help in completing projects on time because they quickly solve problems, thereby contributing to faster product development. Supplier-related as well as the priority top management puts on the project have significant effects on the completion of the overall project.

Article Abstract:
Selection methods of suppliers, at different levels of the supply chain, are surveyed among purchasing managers of the automobile industry, and selection practices that consider current concerns are also investigated. Results suggest that the industry is characterized by common approaches toward selection, and this finding implies similar aims and competitive practices among suppliers and buyers. Another implication is the practice of developing positive and lasting supplier relationships within the supply chain.

South Korean automobile parts suppliers were evaluated for quality control practices. Those suppliers that considered employee satisfaction and process management to be important in their operations were higher rated than those suppliers that did not.
