Cuban Pres Fidel Castro called a rare meeting of the Communist Party's Central Committee on Mar 23-24, 1996, to respond the US's recent tightening of the embargo against Cuba. The party leaders decided to reinforce traditional Communist values and downplay recent economic reforms.

China's leaders endorse socialist market economy at 14th Communist Party congress

Article Abstract:

Members of the Chinese Communist Party gave their support to the economic reforms of Deng Xiaoping during a meeting held Oct 12-18, 1992. Gen Sec Jiang Zemin stated that authoritarian party control was essential in implementing the reforms.

South African whites endorse end to minority rule in referendum on a new constitution

Some 68.6% of South African whites, in a referendum on Mar 17, 1992, voted to support Pres F.W. de Klerk's reform process. Whites supported a new constitution designed to end white minority rule in South Africa.
