Business communication involves writing and speech skills; technological skills are necessary, too. New office technologies include microcomputers, word processors, mailgrams, TWX, voice mail, teleconferencing, and others. Business students need skills in using these new technologies, and business teachers have a responsibility to make students aware of these types of automated equipment.

Awareness of the audience affects the creative processes of a writer. There is a special connection between the business or technical writer and his audience. Audience awareness can be encouraged by business teachers; this is done by motivating students to examine: 1) their own reactions as readers, and 2) the responses of others to their writing.
