GM asked to recall pickups

Article Abstract:

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration asked GM to recall approximately 4.7 million pickup trucks that had been manufactured between 1973 and 1987 due to the possibility of fires caused by side-impact crashes. GM, claiming that the trucks were safe, opposed the recall.
