For better or for worse

Article Abstract:

The Pew Research Center for the People and the Press conducted a survey of Americans by asking them if American life was better or worse as a result of social changes in the 20th century. Eighty-four percent said civil rights was a positive social change. As for credit cards, 68% it made life worse, while 22% said it made it better. Women in the workplace was viewed as positive by 83% of respondents. Forty-five percent said rock and roll music made life better, while 23% said it made it worse.

Article Abstract:

Peter Ruehl bids farewell to the United States by receiving complimentary drinks in an Annapolis, Maryland bar and then takes a farewell cruise on the Chesapeake Bay. The beauty of the morning on the Bay and the cold beers and crab make for a memorable trip. Ruehl appreciates the joy of being so close to the water.

Article Abstract:

Republican George W. Bush leads all United States' presidential candidates in fund raising with a total of $36 million in the first six months of 1999. During the same period, Democratic Vice President Albert Gore Jr., raised $18 million. During a comparable period in 1995, Bill Clinton raised about $20 million.
