New legislation signed by Pres Clinton on Apr 17, 1995, created an oversight board that would have authority over Washington, DC, municipal finance through at least the fiscal year 1999. The measure became necessary after it was determined the city's budget deficit was out of control.

'93 supplemental spending approved

The House approved a $3.5-billion supplemental spending bill for FY 1993 on May 26, 1993, and the Senate approved the bill on Jun 22, 1993. The bill provides funding in areas such as student loans, economic stimulus, summer jobs and small-business loans.

Nutri/System sale approved

A US Bankruptcy Court allowed Heico Acquisitions Co to take control of the operations of weight-loss firm Nutri/System Inc. Heico would offer about $5 million in working capital. Nutri/System was over $44 million in debt.
