Article Abstract:
Non-government organizations (NGOs) are termed as the new missionaries of the Third World and their most effective contribution is instilling self-reliance and playing a critical role in helping poor countries protect their environments as their economies expand. NGOs have played a major role in environmental protection work and a United Nations study found that climate changes cost the world $80 billion in 2003.

Some non-government organizations (NGOs) represent social engineering at its worst as they continue to boom in the Third World, as it took one NGO to blow the whistle on child laborers who sewed Pakistan's footballs, but it took another to show that the ban drove a family-based cottage industry into corporate hands. Most successful NGO efforts are better organized in developing countries.
