Compaq to rely more on corporate PCs

Compaq net soars, but outlook is mixed

Article Abstract:

Compaq Computer Corp. reports earnings for the third-quarter of $550 million, up from $140 million at this time last year. Revenue also rose from $9.21 billion last year to $11.2 billion in 2000. The income growth is based on strong sales for both Compaq's corporate PC and high-margin server businesses.

Compaq posts lower net, sets cost cuts

Article Abstract:

Compaq Computer, reeling from a personal computer price war, announced a 74% fall onf first quarter income, with operations income at $200 million, down $96 million from last year. Revenues of personal computers fell 7%, 9% of servers. In anticipation, Compaq plans to cut about $600 million in costs and possibly lay off 10% of its work force (about 7,000 employees) and cut $450 million in inventories.
