Chemical (specialty)

Article Abstract:

The specialty chemicals industry is comprised of a wide variety of cyclical and non-cyclical companies which serve every sector of the economy. Industry earnings in the late 1990s have been tempered by weak overseas demand and competitive pressures, but there have been advances abroad recently and speculation about merger activity within the industry, as well. Long-term results for the industry appear to be good, even though profits for the short term will likely be under competitive pressure.

Chemical (specialty)

Article Abstract:

Nearly every sector of the US economy is served by the companies which comprise the specialty chemicals industry, and many of these must adjust their operations to meet different demands. Many of these companies have also turned to debt to meet capital requirements as their stocks have fallen out of favor with investors. Most of these stocks have limited short-term prospects, but several have appeal for the next three to five years.
