Build or buy, the brand is king in e-tailing

Australian retailers are choosing to go down different electronic retailing paths, with Coles Myer building its own e-commerce division, e.colesmyer, while corporations such as David Jones and Harris Scarfe choose to pay for their e-tailing technology. The advantages of buying over building are the already-established brand name, the building processes that are already in place, and the existing technology base.
