Black journalist's retrial bid rejected

Mumia Abu-Jamal's plea for a new trial was turned down on Sep 15, 1995. Abu-Jamal was convicted of the 1981 murder of police officer Daniel Faulkner, but maintains his innocence. The former Black Panther Party member is on death row and his case has gained international attention.

Texas execution sets post-1976 record

Article Abstract:

The Dec 12, 1995, execution of James Michael Briddle by Texas authorities brought the total number of executions performed in 1995 to 56. It was the highest number of yearly executions since the death penalty was reinstated in 1976.

Harris executed in California

Article Abstract:

Robert Alton Harris was executed in California on Apr 21, 1992, for the 1978 murders of two boys in San Diego, CA. Harris was the first person to be executed in California in 25 years.
