The Australian stem - cell research was one of the leading among the world but with easy access to capital and technology transfers to the large pharmaceutical companies available in the other countries the pioneer companies have moved overseas. The companies like ES Cell International, Stem Cell Sciences, Bresagen and Cygenix have either moved overseas or merged with foreign companies.

Biotechnology receives support through several programs that operate at national and state levels in spite it requires a better allocation system is needed to share the money around. It is said that the government provides more than $300 million to support biotechnology.
