Baker meets Israeli, Arab leaders

James A. Baker met with Middle East leaders during a six-country trip in Jul 1992 in an initiative to restart the Arab-Israeli peace talks. Israel and the US are near an agreement that freezes settlement in the occupied territories in return for US loan guarantees.

Latin America cooperation boosted

Article Abstract:

The US and six Latin American countries agreed to cooperate in eliminating drug trafficking by signing an accord on Feb 27, 1992, at an antinarcotics summit. KMLO-TV reporter Brian Karem was fired for questioning participants at the summit.

Baker tours southern republics

James Baker visited the former Soviet republics of Moldova, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan from Feb 11-16, 1992. The purpose of the visit was to establish diplomatic relations with the republics.
