Ashland will record $57 million in charges for fiscal 4th period

Article Abstract:

Ashland Inc says it will record one-time after-tax charges of approximately $57 million in its fiscal 4th qtr 1998. The charges will be $93 million before taxes, and $50 million of those will reflect staff restructuring caused by the relocation of its headquarters to Covington, KY. Another $43 million of the pretax charges will reflect environmental costs associated with properties it now holds in a joint venture with USX/Marathon Group. $32.7 of the environmental charges are for settling allegations of illegally discharging pollutants at Kentucky, Minnesota, and Ohio refineries.

CMG Information Services Inc. has purchased a 40% share of the Raging Bull website, a stock-talk service on the Internet. Raging Bull is a fairly new site in the online financial message board industry. Its main competitors are Yahoo! Finance, Silicon Investor, and Motley Fool. Co-founders William Martin, Greg Wright, and Rusty Szurek, are college students. They sold a 40% share in Raging Bull to CMG for an estimated $1 million to $3 million.
