Ahold investigation may expand

The U.S. Attorney in Manhattan and the Securities and Exchange Commission are investigating Ahold's U.S. Foodservice into collusion over supplier rebates, a probe that could involve Sara Lee Corp. and ConAgra Foods Inc. which could shock the $500 billion food industry in the U.S. Sara Lee and ConAgra representatives may have been involved in helping U.S. Foodservice chiefs inflate rebates from suppliers. With the food industry's consolidation, it's easier for giants like U.S. Foodservice to lock in rebates from suppliers.
