AARF: the dogs are barking

Article Abstract:

With the Australian government's adoption of international accounting standards, the support for, and the future of, the Australian Accounting Research Foundation is uncertain. AARF's Director Warren McGregor believes the government is making a mistake by thinking that adopting new accounting standards is less work than researching them from scratch. Australia's other accounting bodies have not been supportive, and they view AARF as a cost, as does the government. Meanwhile, senior staff is leaving AARF.

The criticisms of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia and the National Institute of Accountants on the Australian Taxation Office's new tax determination, which allows unregistered tax agents to offer tax advice, under the Income Tax Assessment Act 1936 are examined.
