BHP Petroleum will have a new chief executive soon. A major issue for the chief executive to decide will be whether BHP remains a conglomerate or becomes several separate companies. The main argument for remaining a conglomerate is the operating cashflow of at least $4.5 billion Australian. Shareholders will benefit if the petroleum operation becomes a separate entity.

Chinese economy grew at 9.5% annual rate in the fourth quarter of 2004 despite G7 nations concerns about such rapid growth. This is attributed to the policy goals of President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao.
