A role for the forecasting function

Article Abstract:

Forecasts provide top management a basis in deciding and acting upon a business situation. Duracell for instance, a division of Gillette, depends on its market and sales forecasts to determine growth and profitability of their alkaline battery products. In particular, the firm applies the forecasting philosophy that consumption drives distribution. Judgmental, time series and causal methods of forecasting are alternatively or uniformly used depending upon market situations.

Developing training plans for the forecasting organization

Article Abstract:

Issues concerning key aspects of training plans applied by forecasting companies are discussed. It is emphasized that good knowledge of forecasting models needs to be combined with methods of identifying forecasting skills and a good understanding of the forecast products.

How good are neural networks for causal forecasting?

Article Abstract:

Issues concerning analytic comparisons between techniques of causal forecasting, namely the model of regression and a method based on artificial intelligence. Particular attention is given to the use of neural networks in the process of identifying patterns of data.
