A heuristic procedure for the layout of a large number of facilities

Article Abstract:

A new way of solving the facilities layout problem is presented. The dispersion phase of 'DISCON' is replaced by a simple procedure. A scatter diagram of the facilities results from application of this new method, providing practitioners with layout planning guidelines. Large layout problems can be efficiently solved by the method, which is both effective and simple.

Periodic review inventory systems with continuous demand and discrete order sizes

Article Abstract:

In a single product inventory system with non-negative setup costs, demand as a contiguous random variable and orders restricted to integer values, optimal policies may have nonintuitive form with no particular structure. However, a suboptimal policy can be derived, that in some sense equals the optimal policy but is much easier to compute.
