A dual ascent procedure for multiproduct dynamic demand coordinated replenishment with backlogging

Article Abstract:

A new mixed-integer programming formulation and a brand-and-bound solution procedure based on dual ascent are developed for the multiproduct dynamic demand coordinated replenishment problem with backlogging. The solution procedures derive optimal solutions about 21 times quicker and ensured three-percent solutions 90 times quicker than the best of earlier techniques. Both the model and solution procedures can therefore be considered as unique alternatives to the conventional dynamic programming methods that have been developed since the 1970s. The efficiency and large-scale capability of the procedures have huge potential in inventory requirements planning systems.

Reducing Control Loss in Organizations: The Implications of Dual Hierarchies, Mentoring and Strengthing Vertical Dyadic Linkages

Article Abstract:

Loss of control across two hierarchical levels is studied, using Williamson's control loss model. Simulations for various organizational arrangements with hierarchical levels ranging from three to eleven levels were used. High control is essential for organizations with sequential or reciprocal interdependence. Dual hierarchies and cadre relations are appropriate for small organizations. Monitoring and cadre relations are appropriate mechanisms for reducing control loss in organizations with low turnover. Tables of computational data are available.

Article Abstract:

Control loss in organizations is explored. Williamson's (1971) control loss model is used assuming constant span of control and control efficiency across organizational levels. Two hierarchical levels, superior/subordinate, are considered. Control loss is a measure of managerial inefficiency. The relation between mentoring and the vertical dyadic linkage (VDL) model of leadership is studied. Three methods of increasing control are compared. Tables are included.
