40 slain in S. Africa massacre; ANC breaks off talks

Armed marauders killed more than 40 blacks in the South African township of Boipatong on June 17, 1992. Many witnesses charged the police with complicity in the massacre. The ANC suspended constitutional talks with the government until the violence is curbed.
