100-seat jet may be built to broaden Airbus line

Article Abstract:

Airbus Industrie may add a 100-seat jetliner to its product line. Airbus sales chief John Leahy said there would be high demand and low development costs for a smaller version of the 124-seat A319. If developed, the new jet would be known as the A319M5 and would compete directly with two Boeing models, the 717 and 737-600. The European consortium is celebrating its recent contract to supply the narrow-body A139 and A320 to British Airways. Airbus believes that the 188 firm orders and options, if all the options are taken, may have a total value of $9 billion.
