Article Abstract:
A study of the regulation of decapentaplegic (dpp) transcription in Drosophila imaginal discs by cAMP-dependent protein kinase (PKA) and hedgehog (hh) using genetic mosaics reveals that dpp expression is suppressed by PKA through a signaling pathway while the expression is retained by the opposing action of hh on this pathway. Cells without PKA activity exhibit ectopic expression of dpp in the anterior compartment of appendage discs and anterior to the morphogenetic furrow in the eye disc. dpp activity determines the ability of PKA-lacking cells to rearrange anterior patterns in appendages.

Article Abstract:
Research demonstrates that hippo gene regulates both cell proliferation and cell death in Drosophila. Results show that the gene codes for Ste-20 family protein kinase, which binds to and phosphorylates Salvador tumor suppressor protein. The absence of hippo gene leads to increased cyclin E biosynthesis, cell proliferation and reduced cell death.

It was reported that Akt, an essential component of the insulin-powered pathway, stimulates growth by phosphorylating and inhibiting tuberous sclerosis complex 2 (TSC2).
