Article Abstract:

Studies of the reproductive life of Chamorro males living in Guam in 1941 showed males exhibiting low levels of infertility and high levels of male mortality. However, fertile couples who failed to reproduce had an equal or greater impact on the population than the male mortality rate, while new unions following the death of female partners reduced fertility by approximately one child.
