Article Abstract:
Research has been conducted on the transport systems for C (sub)4-dicarboxylates. The regulation of two transport proteins by C (sub)4-dicarboxylates in Bacillus subtilis is discussed.

Article Abstract:
A novel gene, with its product resembling the DnaB protein of Escherichia coli forms part of the Bacillus subtilis chromosome. Gene transformation and DNA sequencing indicate that the elongation defect-inducing dnaC30 and ts56 gene mutations and the ts199 mutation leading to replication initiation defect map to the new gene. While the amino-terminal end of the B. subtilis DnaC protein houses dnaC30 and ts56, ts199 is housed near the carboxy-terminal, indicating that dnaC gene of B. subtilis codes for an E. coli dnaB helicase counterpart.
