Targeting methanopterin biosynthesis to inhibit methanogenesis

Article Abstract:

The design, synthesis and successful employment of inhibitors of 4-(beta-D-ribofuranosyl) aminobenzene- 5'-phosphate (RFA-P) synthase, which catalyzes the first committed step in the biosynthesis of methanopterin, to specifically halt the growth of methane- producing microbes is described. Findings state that inhibitors do not adversely affect the growth of pure cultures of bacteria that play a beneficial role in the rumen.

Identification and molecular characterization of the chromosomal exopolysaccharide biosynthesis gene cluster from Lactococcus lactis subsp. cremoris SMQ-461

Article Abstract:

The quantity and molecular mass of the exopolysaccharide (EPS) produced by Lactococcus lactis subsp. cremoris SMQ-461, and also the organization and transcription of the novel chromosomal eps gene cluster is presented. The function of the eps gene cluster in EPS biosynthesis is experimentally demonstrated by disrupting the priming glycosyltransferase gene.

An ergot alkaloid biosynthesis gene and clustered hypothetical genes from Aspergillus fumigatus

Article Abstract:

Aspergillus fumigatus is a common airborne fungus and opportunistic human pathogen. A study was conducted with its main objective of determining whether the ergot alkaloids of Aspergillus fumigatus had a common biosynthetic origin with those of the clavicipitaceous fungi.
