Statistical approach for comparison of the growth rates of five strains of Staphylococcus aureus

Article Abstract:

A statistical process of principle-component analysis is used for comparing the growth rates of five strains of Staphylococcus aureus. A nonlinear model that considers the specific growth rate and the residual error variations provides biological information related to microorganisms. A measure of the effect of pH at different NaCl concentrations and temperature indicates that a pH range of 6.5 to 7.4 is ideal for optimum growth rate irrespective of the temperature and NaCl concentration.

A biosensor for environmental genotoxin screening based on an SOS lux assay in recombinant Escherichia coli cells

Article Abstract:

A bioassay utilizing the SOS lux test was developed to detect environmental genotoxins rapidly. The assay is based on a luminescent bacterial gene combined to an SOS promoter. The recombinant gene is expressed in Escherichia coli. The presence of genotoxin in the environment induces a fluorescence in the recombinant bacteria. A dose-response relationship was observed during the testing of eight genotoxins.

Rapid biosensor of detection of antibiotic-selective growth of Escherichia coli

Article Abstract:

A rapid biosensor is developed for the detection of bacterial growth using micromechanical oscillators coated in common nutritive layers. The change in resonance frequency as a function of the increasing mass on a cantilever array forms the basis of the detection scheme.
