Staphylococcal cell wall: morphogenesis and fatal variations in the presence of penicillin

Article Abstract:

The cell wall morphogenesis, wall degradation and the combination of both processes in the Staphylococcus aureus were discussed and related to the penicillin-caused structural changes. Cross wall formation begun asymmetrically at a single origin beneath the peripheral cell wall. Characteristic variations in the cross wall were observed in the presence of penicillin. Murosomes appeared in the peripheral cell wall above closed cross walls. A distinct morphological defect that was observed was the halt in the formation of the splitting system upon treatment with penicillin.

Mapping the pathways to staphylococcal pathogenesis by comparative secretomics

Article Abstract:

A state-of-the-art roadmap is provided of staphylococcal secretomes, which include both protein transport pathways and the extra cytoplasmic proteins of staphylooccal organisms. The integrated results of genomic and proteomic studies on Staphylococcus aureus, which represents the first documented 'comparative secretomics' study, are presented.

Viral proteomics

Article Abstract:

The proteomic studies conducted on all eukaryotic viruses and bacteriophages with regard to virion composition, viral protein structures, virus-virus and virus-host protein interactions and changes in the cellular proteome upon viral infection are discussed.
