Signal, noise and reliability in molecular phylogenetic analyses

Article Abstract:

An evaluation of molecular phylogenetic analysis was done to determine molecular data which have little phylogenetic significance and considerable random noise. It was shown that if the number of taxa is of the order common in most molecular studies, tests for validity will be passed. It was also shown that measurements based on the shape and distribution of the length of the trees will provide a means of discriminating signal from noise.

A functional-phylogenetic classification system for transmembrane solute transporters

Article Abstract:

This review discusses the structural and functional aspects of transport proteins in living organisms and proposes a comprehensive classification system of these proteins based on the functional and phylogenetic characteristics. The classification of the transporters and their constituents is designated as the transporter classification system of the Transport Commission of the IUBMB.

The two faces of short-range evolutionary dynamics of regulatory modes in bacterial transcriptional regulatory networks

Article Abstract:

A study report which suggests that at the evolutionary dynamics of the bacterial transcriptional regulatory network might exhibit distinct patterns at shorter phylogenetic scales is presented.
