On the displacement of single-locus polymorphisms

Article Abstract:

A simple calculation for the intensity of selection of a new allele was presented. Basing on the calculation, it was shown that the new allele will exhibit rarity and will be found exclusively in heterozygotes. It is also predicted to show minimal dominance as well as an average fitness similar to the remaining members of the polymorphic population. The lack of strong selection for the new allele suggests that gene duplications will be fixed in species following a balanced polymorphism.

A deletion affecting several gene candidates is present in the evergrowing peach mutant

Article Abstract:

A local molecular genetic linkage map around evergrowing (EVG) is developed using amplified fragment length polymorphism and simple sequence repeat markers, and a bacterial artificial chromosome contig that contains the EVG mutation is assembled. EVG peach is one of the only two described mutants affecting winter dormancy in woody perennial species.
