Article Abstract:
The rate-limiting enzyme in hepatic heme biosynthesis, 5-aminolevulinate synthase (ALAS-1), is regulated by the peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma coactivator 1alpha (PGC-1alpha). Elevation of PGC-1alpha in mice via adenoviral vectors increases the levels of heme precursors in vivo as observed in acute attacks, indicating that the PGC-1alpha links nutritional status to heme biosynthesis acute hepatic porphyria.

Article Abstract:
The identification of p160 myb binding protein as a repressor of PGC-1 gamma is described that interacts with PGC-1 gamma's negative regulatory domain and reduces its transcriptional and biological activities. The understanding of energy balance and diabetes is enhanced by the discovery of p160MBP as a PGC-1gamma regulator.

Article Abstract:
The effect of PPAR[gamma] 1[alpha] (PGC-1[alpha]) on the metabolism of reactive oxygen species (ROS) is examined. Results reveal that PGC-1[alpha] is a broad and powerful regulator of ROS metabolism, providing a potential target for the therapeutic manipulation of important endogenus toxins.
