Meiotic recombination in yeast: coronation of the double-strand-break repair model

Article Abstract:

The double-strand-break repair model of meiotic recombination in yeast describes a meiosis-specific division of the double-stranded deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) by endonuclease. The 3prime-ended single-strand which is generated by DNA exonuclease undergoes repair synthesis and ligation to produce an intermediate with two duplexes that are connected by Holliday junctions. Finally, two segments of hDNA which forms a single duplex are generated by the action of Holliday junction resolvase and ligase.

DNA strand exchange mediated by a RAD51-ssDNA nucleoprotein filament with polarity opposite to that of RecA

Article Abstract:

The RAD51-ssDNA nucleoprotein filament with polarity opposite to that of the bacterial prototype RecA arrests the DNA strand exchange. The pairing and strand exchange initiate at the 5' end of the complementary strand in the linear duplex, a reaction polarity opposite to that of RecA. In the presence of ATP and replication protein A, RAD51 protein pairs single-stranded DNA (ssDNA) with homologous double-stranded DNA (dsDNA) and catalyzes strand exchange between the synapsed DNA partners.

Crystal structure of an IHF-DNA complex: a protein-induced DNA U-turn

Article Abstract:

The integration host factor-deoxyribonucleic acid (IHF-DNA) complex is a minor groove-intercalating DNA-bending protein. Analysis of the crystal structure of the Escherichia coli IHF-DNA complex indicated the presence of a pseudocontinuous helix of DNA that is wrapped around the protein. The DNA also forms a U-turn around the IHF which results in the formation of a complex pseudo-2 fold symmetry by both components in the complex protein.
