Recent laboratory studies show that the immune system not only practices clonal selection of lymphocytes but also engages in molecular selection of receptors. Immune cells have been demonstrated to change their antigen receptors before cellular selection. Developing lymphocytes and more mature T and B cells play host to secondary antigen receptor gene recombination. A form of 'editing' takes place in the developing lymphocyte as a result of autoantigen receptor ligation. Antigen-generated receptor selection can potentially influence immune responses.

Article Abstract:
YAC mice were generated expressing caspase-3- and caspase-6-resistant mutual huntingtin (htt) in order to determine whether caspase cleavage of htt is a key event in the neuronal dysfunction and selective neurodegeneration in Huntington's disease (HD). Results are consistent with in vivo proteolytic cleavage of mutant htt (mhtt) at the caspase-6 cleavage site being a crucial and rate-limiting event in the pathogenesis of HD.

Article Abstract:
Studies done on c-myc/IgH translocations in IL6 transgenic mice that are mutant for activation induced cytidine deaminase (AID), the enzyme that initiates CSR is presented. Results provide a mechanistic link between CSR and c-myc/IgH translocations and establish a fundamental role for AID in chromosomal translocations.
