Igf2 imprinting does not require its own DNA methylation of H19RNA

Article Abstract:

In mammals expression of a few genes is affected by the origin of the chromosome in the parent, genomic imprinting. Allele-specific DNA methylation is important among the common features. Three possible models for explaining the imprinting of the mouse Ifg2 gene on the maternal chromosome have been put forward. Two were ruled out. A transcriptional model that involves access to a set of enhancers shared by Ifg2 and H19 is the mostly probable explanation for Ifg2 imprinting.

Chromosome methylation patterns during mammalian preimplantation development

Article Abstract:

DNA methylation patterns in preimplantation mouse development have been studied by analysis of monoclonal antibody-to-5-methylcytosine (5-MeC) binding on metaphase chromosomes. At each cell stage certain chromosome patterns appeared. It appears that chromosome demethylation is associated with each DNA replication. A passive mechanism appears to be predominant in early development.

Mammalian sirtuins-emerging roles in physiology, aging, and calorie restriction

Article Abstract:

Recent findings that demonstrate the role of mammalian sirtuins as regulators of physiology, calorie restriction, and aging, are reviewed. The results sharpen the understanding of sirtuins as potential pharmacological targets to treat the major diseases of aging.
