Identification of specific chemoattractants and genetic complementation of a Borrelia burgdorferi chemotaxis mutant: Flow cytometry-based capillary tube chemotaxis assay

Article Abstract:

A modified capillary tube chemotaxis assay for Borrelia burgdorferi that enumerates cells by flow cytometry is presented. The method identified specific chemical attractants for Borrelia burgdorferi and the use of flow cytometry for spirochete enumeration that could also be applied to assay other slow-growing prokaryotic species and in specific environments in nature.

Adaptation of a luciferase gene reporter and lac expression system to Borrelia burgdorferi

Article Abstract:

The first application of the isopropyl-[beta]-D-thiogalactopyranoside (IPTG)-inducible lac repressor/operator system to Borrelia burgdorferi genetics which could be also be used to assess the regulation of other genes potentially involved in virulence expression by Borrelia burgdorferi is demonstrated.

Identification of a malate chemoreceptor in Pseudomonas aeruginosa by screening for chemotaxis defects in an energy taxis-deficient mutant

Article Abstract:

Chemotaxis in Pseudomonas aeruginosa mediated by other methyl-accepting chemotaxis proteins (MCPs) can be masked by a robust energy taxis response. The screening of aer mcp double mutants identifies PA2652 as the chemoreceptor for malate.
