Chloromethane utilization gene cluster from hyphomicrobium chloromethanicum strain CM2(T) and development of functional gene probes to detect halomethane-degrading bacteria

Article Abstract:

A model is presented for the chloromethane utilization pathway of the CM2(T) strain of Hyphomicrobium chloromethanicum, which was found to resemble the Methylobacterium chloromethanicum corrinoid-dependent methyl transfer system. Gene probes identified include cmuA, cmuB, and cmuC, all with similarities to those of M. chloromethanicum.

Identification of methyl halide-utilizing genes in the methyl bromide-utilizing bacterial strain IMB-1 suggests a high degree of conservation of methyl halide-specific genes in gram-negative bacteria

Article Abstract:

A methyltransferase from strain IMB-1 is highly homologous to a methyltransferase from Methylobacterium chloromethanicum and Hyphomicrobium chloromethanicum. Strain IMB-1 belongs to the alpha subgroup of the Proteobacteria and can live on methyl bromide as its sole source of carbon and energy.

Chloromethane-dependent expression of the cmu gene cluster of hyphomicrobium chloromethanicum

Article Abstract:

Chloromethane can be used as the only supplier of carbon and energy to the Methylotrophic bacterium called Hyphomicrobium chloromethanicum. Even the expression of the cmuBCA-metF record indicated that chlormethane was strongly inducible and was not withdrawn by another C1 substrate methanol.
