Identification of cyanophage Ma-LBP and infection of the cyanobacterium Microcystis aeruginosa from an Australian subtropical lake by the virus

Article Abstract:

The aim of the study was to determine if cyanophages could exert a controlling influence on the abundance of the potentially toxic cyanobacterium Microcystis aeruginosa. The results showed that this cyanophage could be a major natural control mechanism of M. aeruginosa abundance in aquatic ecosystems.

Diel infection of a cyanobacterium by a contractile bacteriophage

Article Abstract:

Phage progeny production was correlated with the amount of light in the laboratory and occurred in a diel pattern under natural light. The results showed that light was found to strongly influence the infection of freshwater cyanobacterium by a contractile DNA phage AS-1.

Cyanobacterial diversity in natural and artificial microbial mats of Lake Fryxell (McMurdo Dry Valleys, Antarctica): a morphological and molecular approach

Article Abstract:

Research has been conducted on Antarctic cyanobacteria. The authors have investigated genotypic and phenotypic diversity of natural cyanobacteria from Lake Fryxell microbial mat sample and artificial cold-adapted cyanobacteria via the use of inoculum from the same mat.
