Identification of and spatio-temporal differences between microbial assemblages from two neighboring sulfurous lakes: comparison by microscopy and denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis

Article Abstract:

Results show that the spatio-temporal distribution of sulfurous lake microbial assemblages suggest the at the distribution evenness is low despite a dense species presence. Observations are corroborated by biochemical and molecular data.

Profiling of complex microbial populations by denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis analysis of polymerase chain reaction-amplified genes coding for 16S rRNA

Article Abstract:

A molecular technique for studying the diversity of genes from complex microbial populations is presented. Bacteria obtained from Escherichia coli were analyzed by denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis. This approach separated polymerase chain reaction-amplified fragments of genes coding for 16S rRNA of the same length. The utility of this molecular approach for genetic research was established.

Nested PCR-denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis approach to determine the diversity of sulfate-reducing bacteria in complex microbial communities

Article Abstract:

A three-step nested-PCR-denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE) strategy is described to detect sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) in complex communities from industrial bioreactors. Comparative sequence analysis of excised DGGE bands revealed the identity of the community members.
