Characterization of rhizobial isolates of Phaseolus vulgaris by staircase electrophoresis of low-molecular-weight RNA
Article Abstract:
Researchers used low-molecular-weight RNA analysis to show that the common bean Phaseolus vulgaris forms nitrogen-fixing symbioses with Rhizobium etli, R. gallicum, R. giardinii, R. leguminosarum bv. Viciae and bv. Trifolii, and Sinorhizobium fredii. This alternative to 16S rRNA gene sequencing is cheaper and more readily available.

Nitrogen-fixing nodules with Ensifer adhaerens harboring Rhizobium tropici symbiotic plasmids
Article Abstract:
Researchers converted the soil bacterium Ensifer adhaerens to a nitrogen-fixer that can nodulate legumes by transconjugating it with Rhizobium tropici, which contains a plasmid containing the genetic information for nodule formation. Ensifer adhaerens already has the ability to attach to other bacteria.

Identification of a third sulfate activation system in Sinorhizobium sp. strain BR816: CysDN sulfate activation complex
Article Abstract:
Research discusses the role of a third 3'-phosphoadenosine-5'-phosphosulfate-producing locus with respect to sulfated Nod factor synthesis in Sinorhizobium sp. strain BR816. Results indicate that the CysDN sulfate activation complex is involved in Nod factor sulfation.
