Identification of a multicomponent complex required for outer membrane biogenesis in Escherichia coli

Article Abstract:

The identification of a multiprotein complex required for the assembly of proteins in the outermembrane of Escherichia coli is described. These study also demonstrate genetic interactions between genes encoding components of the protein assembly complex and imp, which encodes a protein involved in the assembly of lipopolysaccharides (LPS) in the outermembrane.

Chemical conditionality: A genetic strategy to probe organelle assembly

Article Abstract:

The study conducted shows that toxic small molecules can be used in selections employing strains with permeability defects to create particular chemical conditions that demand specific suppressor mutations. The mechanism of action of chlorobiphenyl vancomycin (CBPV) and moenomycin that inhibit bacterial cell wall (peptidoglycan) synthesis is investigated.

Defining the roles of the periplasmic chaperons SurA, Skp, and DegP in Escherichia coli

Article Abstract:

The various effects of periplasmic chaperons SurA, Skp, and DegP and their interactions with integral [beta]-barrel proteins (OMPs) are reported. The importances of these chaperons depend on the amount of stress on the cells.
