Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to identify the random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) markers linked to sex determination loci in the dioecious plant Salix viminalis. Of the 1,080 RAPD bands examined, only a single 560 bp band was shown to be associated to a sex determination locus. This marker, UBC354560, was inherited from both female and male parents involved in the factorial mating design. The marker is associated with femaleness in certain genetic backgrounds and is linked to allele A1 in the proposed genetic model of sex determination for S. viminalis.

Article Abstract:
Research has been conducted on sex determination systems in plants. The estimates of recombination suggest that the sequence characterized amplified region markers, which are present in the female parent, are flanking putative sex determination locus in some families of Salix viminalis L.

Article Abstract:
The authors describe the study of East African cichlids which have high level of morphological diversity. They have investigated the genetic basis of differences in cochlid oral jaw design, and the results suggest that developmental units are responsible for the shape differences.
