Identification and localization of a Rickettsia sp. in Bemisia tabaci (Homoptera: Aleyrodidae)

Article Abstract:

Molecular fingerprinting methods are used to characterize the bacteria associated with a B biotype of the sweet potato whitefly Bemisia tabaci and a Rickettsia sp. is detected for the first time in this insect family. Rickettsia's role in the biology of the whitefly is unknown, but the vertical transmission and the partial within-population infection have indicated a phenotype that is advantageous under certain conditions but may be deleterious enough to prevent fixation under others.

Tick-borne zoonotic bacteria in wild and domestic small mammals in northern Spain

Article Abstract:

The small mammals infected with tick-borne zoonotic bacteria and their possible effects on human are studied. Results concluded that small mammals are main source of zoonotic bacteria and regular environmental observation must be carried out to avoid transmission of these bacteria to humans.
