Hyperthermophilic DNA methyltransferase M.PabI from the Archaeon Pyrococcus abyssi

Article Abstract:

A study demonstrated that pabIM, which is similar to M and S genes of type I system, encodes a functional DNA methyltransferase (M.PabI) generating 5'-GTm6AC. The results showed that this unique methyltransferase and PabI constitute a type II restriction-modification gene complex that entered the Pyrococcus abyssi genome relatively recently.

Large-restriction-fragment polymorphism analysis of Mycobacterium chelonae and Mycobacterium terrae isolates

Article Abstract:

A comparison of the large-restriction-fragments, from six nontuberculous isolates of Mycobacterium chelonae and four nontuberculous isolates of M. terrae, reveal unique patterns representing each isolate whose dendrograms indicate a high degree of diversity.

Release of extracellular transformable plasmid DNA from Escherichia coli cocultivated with algae

Article Abstract:

Cocultivation of Escherichia coli with algal species causes substantial release of plasmid DNA from the bacterium in a transformable condition. Implication of this trait in bacterial horizontal gene transfer in aquatic environments is discussed.
