Article Abstract:
The metabolic intermediates formed with nitrate as the electron acceptor is investigated as a pert of our ongoing studies on the anaerobic degradation of benzene by Dechloromonas strain RCB. The results of these studies provide the first documentation of the mechanism of anaerobic nitrate-dependent metabolism of benzene in pure culture and also provide significant insight into the initial process of oxidation of this compound in the absence of oxygen.

Article Abstract:
The alkane- and alkene-degrading, marine sulfate-reducing bacterium Desulfatibacillum aliphaticivorans strain CV2803 is examined for its 1-alkene metabolism. The pathways have indicated that diverse initial reactions of 1-alkene activation have occurred simultaneously in the same strain of sulfate-reducing bacterium.
