Article Abstract:
A study was conducted on the radial and axial hydrogen concentration profiles of lowe, wood-feeding termite Reticulitermes flavipes gut. The profiles were also correlated with intestinal redox potential profiles and oxygen concentration gradients. Results suggest that termite hindguts are highly structured systems exhibiting high metabolite gradients and not homogeneous anoxic fermenters.

Article Abstract:
A study was conducted on a novel spirochete strain, SPN1, after isolating it from the hindgut contents of the Neotermes castaneus. It was observed that the SPN1 might play an important role in the digestion of breakdown products from cellulose and hemicellulose in the termite gut.
