Hybrids between cultivated and wild carrots in natural populations in Denmark

Article Abstract:

Adult hybrids of cultivated and wild carrots in natural carrot populations close to carrot field in Denmark are searched and tested for finding out if the hybrids can survive in wild Danish populations. The results have shown that despite generations of improvement and adaptation of cultivar carrots to highly managed field conditions, hybrids can sometimes survive in wild populations close to carrot fields and their genes transfer to wild population by introgression.

Massive changes of the maize genome are caused by Helitrons

Article Abstract:

Morgante and group reported the discovery that a vast majority of sequence diversity distinguishing two well-known maize lines is due to a class of transposable elements termed Helitrons. Sequencing of the maize genome would help understand whether Helitrons are active in maize genome or whether appropriate enzymatic activities for movement are still encoded by maize genome.

Multinucleate storage cells in Douglas-fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii (Mirbel) Franco) and the effect of seed parasitism by the chalcid Megastigmus spermontrophus Wachtl

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to investigate Douglas-fir megagametophyte development with megagametophytes and pollinated megagametophytes. A novel finding was that most storage cells infested and uninfested pollinated megagametophytes were multinucleate.
