Article Abstract:
Eleven human microsatellite primer pairs are identified which can be used in polymerase chain reaction amplifications as informative genetic markers in divergent primate taxa. The amplification of six loci in Old World monkeys and apes shows allelic variation within and among the species. However, there is no cross-amplification between humans, prosimians and New World monkeys. Heterozygosity and allelic diversity is detected in most of the species when all the eleven loci are tested. This shows that microsatellite primers for one species can provide information about related taxa.

Article Abstract:
The detection of hypervariable markers using the human-derived minisatellite probes 33.6 and 33.15 in the satyrid butterfly Bicyclus anynana reveals the presence of a highly informative fingerprinting system. Probes 33.6 and 33.15 were found to hybridize to an identical single hypervariable locus at low stringency in this species. The two probes detected each other independently, segregating polymorphic locus and allowing the genotypes to be characterized.

Article Abstract:
The sequence data is examined for evidence of the two mechanisms that generate recombination mediated events, such as unequal crossing over or gene conversion and through transportation of mobile elements (MEs). The analysis has shown that the conserved sequences might help in understanding the mechanism underlying the multiplication events and might also provide answer for why these redundancies are predominantly found in the butterfly Bicyclus anyana.
